Zabri and Micah win the Veteran Sweepstakes

For the past sixteen years Setter Ridge Kennel has won various awards at the English Setter National Specialty. However this year the next generation of handlers wins big. Micah showed her dog Zabri(American Canadian Champion Bluprint's Set'r Ridge's Zabri Junior Hunter), who is a veteran at the age of eleven.



Zabri and Micah won the Veteran Sweepstakes over Micah's mom Melissa Newman who was showing Zabri's son Kid (American Canadian Japanese Champion Set'r Ridge Lookin At You Kid Junior Hunter). Kid was the top ranked English Setter in the US in 1995 and 1996.



Although Zabri herself was the top ranked English Setter in the US in 1994, she has been retired for many years. Micah has only shown at two dog shows prior to showing at the June 2000 National in San Diego, held at the Lawrence Welk Resort on their elite golf course. Micah also won an Award of Merit with Zabri, once again beating her mom who won the last Award of Merit given with Kid.



There were setters from many Countries in attendance, including dogs from Japan, Canada, Mexico as well as the U.S. Out of an entry of over 200 dogs, seven awards were given to the top winners. Of these awards, Set'r Ridge produced winners bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex--Set'r Ridge's Photocopy.



Usually Best of Opposite Sex is won by a Champion, so this was a big feat in itself. Reserve winners dog and Reserve Winners Bitch were out of Ch Set'r Ridge Rich Kid (Kid's daughter). Best Stud dog was Ch Set'r Ridge's Select Gold, sire of Winners Bitch and Winners Dog. There were five award of Merits given and Zabri and Kid won two of these from the Veteran Bitch class and Field Trial Dog class. Best In Futurity was Set'r Ridge's Special Affects. First in the Open Bitch Class was Set'r Ridge's Impressive, first in the 9 to 12 class was Set'r Ridge's Special Affects, first in the American Bred Class was Set'r Ridge Arden's Spice Girl and first in the Bred By class and Best Bred by in show was Set'r Ridge's Photo Copy.



All in all a great National for Setter Ridge Kennel and a thrill for Micah and her family.
